Las Vegas looks like an easy place to use hotel points. Most of the Strip belongs to two casino companies, and both have deals with big hotel programs. The details matter, though: which program books which resort, what status you get, and above all whether you still owe a resort fee on a “free” night. Here is how it works as of October 2026.
One correction first, since it still trips people up: MGM’s partnership with World of Hyatt ended on September 30, 2023, when MGM moved to Marriott Bonvoy. You can no longer book MGM resorts with Hyatt points. Hyatt’s Strip option now is The Venetian Resort.
The partnerships at a glance
| Program | Las Vegas hotels | Resort fee on award nights? |
|---|---|---|
| Marriott Bonvoy (MGM Collection) | 13 MGM resorts, including Bellagio, ARIA, The Cosmopolitan, Vdara, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, Park MGM, New York-New York, Luxor and Excalibur | Yes, charged, except for Ambassador Elite members |
| World of Hyatt | The Venetian and The Palazzo; Hyatt Place properties off the Strip | At The Venetian, Hyatt says Globalists get it waived on award stays; others should plan to pay |
| Caesars Rewards and Wyndham Rewards | Caesars resorts such as Caesars Palace, Paris and Harrah’s | Caesars Diamond lists no resort fees, with restrictions; otherwise expect to pay |
| Hilton Honors | Resorts World (Hilton, Conrad, Crockfords) and Virgin Hotels Las Vegas | Virgin waives it on stays booked fully with points; check other properties when booking |
MGM Rewards and Marriott Bonvoy
Marriott’s MGM Collection FAQ lists 13 Las Vegas properties you can book with Bonvoy points. Points can only pay for the room. They can’t be used for dining, spa or other charges, and Upgrade Awards don’t work at these hotels. You also need to book through Marriott to earn or redeem Bonvoy points.
The resort fee is the big catch. Marriott’s FAQ says plainly: “Marriott Bonvoy members will pay resort fees on Award Redemption Stays.” Only Ambassador Elite members get them waived, on up to two rooms. In one AwardWallet example, an ARIA award night still cost $55 in resort fees plus taxes on that fee.
Pricing is dynamic. AwardWallet reported ARIA weeknights averaging about 23,000 points, with busy dates commonly 140,000 points or more. One Mile at a Time estimated MGM award value at only about 0.5 to 0.7 cents per point. Status also flows one way: MGM Rewards tiers match into Bonvoy (Pearl to Silver, Gold and Platinum to Gold, Noir to Ambassador), but Bonvoy members don’t get a matching MGM tier, only select perks at MGM properties based on their Bonvoy tier.
World of Hyatt at The Venetian
The Venetian joined Hyatt’s program in January 2025. Its award prices don’t follow Hyatt’s category chart; they are loosely tied to the cash rate, and Hyatt free night certificates can’t be used there, according to AwardWallet and Thrifty Traveler. At launch, AwardWallet found a suite at 26,000 points against about $255 cash, or under 1 cent per point, which is weak for Hyatt points.
On resort fees, a Hyatt spokesperson told AwardWallet in 2026 that “World of Hyatt Globalist members currently enjoy waived resort fees on award stays.” That points to non-Globalists paying the fee even on points stays, so confirm the total before you book.
The better Hyatt value is usually off the Strip. NerdWallet lists Hyatt Place Las Vegas on Paradise Road and Hyatt Place Las Vegas at Silverton Village as Category 3 hotels with free breakfast. Under Hyatt’s reported new five-tier pricing (from May 20, 2026), Category 3 runs from 8,000 to 20,000 points a night, depending on the date.
Caesars Rewards and Wyndham Rewards
Caesars and Wyndham work differently from Marriott and MGM. Wyndham’s partnership page says you earn Wyndham Rewards points when you stay at Caesars Rewards hotels, and that resort fees at Caesars properties can’t be paid with points. We couldn’t confirm a way to book standard Caesars rooms with Wyndham points, so plan on using Caesars’ own Reward Credits or cash for the room. Wyndham has also offered occasional Caesars stay promotions, so check its Caesars Rewards page before booking.
The status match is the bigger draw. Wyndham Platinum and Diamond can match to the same Caesars tier, but since 2025 only Wyndham status earned through hotel nights counts (15 nights for Platinum, 40 for Diamond). Status from a Wyndham credit card no longer qualifies. In the other direction, Caesars Platinum matches to Wyndham Platinum, and Diamond or Seven Stars matches to Wyndham Diamond. Caesars lists “no resort fees” as a Diamond benefit, with restrictions.
Getting there on points
Las Vegas is an easy flight from most of the Midwest, and Southwest, United and the other major airlines all fly to Harry Reid International (LAS). Chase Ultimate Rewards points transfer 1:1 to Southwest and United. Chase points also move to Marriott and Wyndham at 1:1, and to Hyatt at 1:1 for Sapphire Reserve or 4:3 for Sapphire Preferred.
Which redemptions are good value?
- Good: Off-Strip Hyatt Place awards with free breakfast, and Hilton points at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, where a stay booked fully with points waives the resort fee.
- Situational: Marriott points at MGM resorts on cheap midweek dates, if you accept that the resort fee is still due. Do the math with the fee included.
- Usually poor: Big-point Marriott awards on weekends and convention dates, and Hyatt points at The Venetian when you’re not a Globalist.

Our take
Las Vegas is one of the few places where a points night can still cost real money, because most award stays on the Strip still carry a resort fee. Before redeeming, compare the cash rate with the points price plus the fee. Often the cash rate wins, and your points go further somewhere else.
Status is where the real savings are. Caesars Diamond and Marriott Ambassador Elite both get the resort fee waived, but most travelers won’t reach those tiers, and a match earned through Wyndham hotel nights takes 40 nights for Diamond. Finally, nothing here should push you to gamble or spend more to chase status. Set a budget for the trip and stick to it.
