Aeroméxico formally launched its new Mexico City–Milan route on October 15, 2026, and set the schedule. Flights are planned to start March 28, 2027, on Boeing 787 Dreamliners. Milan is one of four new international routes Aeroméxico has lined up for spring 2027, along with Guadalajara–Paris and two Caribbean routes. Here’s what’s been announced and what it could mean if you collect Aeroméxico Rewards points or SkyTeam miles.
How the announcements unfolded
Aeroméxico first revealed plans for Milan Malpensa in mid-August 2026, without dates. In early September it added Guadalajara–Paris and gave start dates for both European routes. On September 21, Spanish-language business press reported two new Caribbean routes from Mexico City. Then on October 15, at an event in Mexico City with Italy’s ambassador and the Italian Chamber of Commerce, the airline presented the Milan route and its flight times. Milan will be Aeroméxico’s second city in Italy, after Rome.
The new routes (as of October 2026)
| Route | Planned start | Frequency | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mexico City (MEX) – Milan Malpensa (MXP) | March 28, 2027 | 4 weekly | Boeing 787. Departs MEX Tue/Thu/Sat/Sun at 10:25 p.m. and arrives 6:20 p.m. the next day. Returns Mon/Wed/Fri/Sun at 11:05 p.m. and arrives 4:00 a.m. the next day. |
| Guadalajara (GDL) – Paris | April 13, 2027 | 3 weekly | Boeing 787, reported as Paris-Charles de Gaulle. Aeroméxico’s second Guadalajara–Europe route after Madrid. |
| Mexico City – Montego Bay, Jamaica | March 18, 2027 | 3 weekly (Thu/Sat/Sun) | Reported as on sale, subject to government approval. |
| Mexico City – Nassau, Bahamas | March 19, 2027 | 3 weekly (Fri/Sat/Sun) | Reported as on sale, subject to government approval. |
All times are local and come from Mexican press coverage of the October 15 event (EFE, Forbes México). Aeroméxico’s earlier announcements said the Milan service is subject to government approval. Schedules can change before launch, so treat the times as a guide.
Who this affects
- Travelers in Mexico gain nonstop options to northern Italy and, from Guadalajara, to France.
- U.S. travelers could connect in Mexico City or Guadalajara. For most of the U.S., that’s longer than flying through a U.S. or European hub. It mainly makes sense when the award space or price is clearly better, or when you’re already combining a Mexico stop with Europe.
- Caribbean travelers get new Mexico City links to Jamaica and the Bahamas in time for Easter 2027. Aeroméxico says it plans more than 4,000 weekly seats to the Caribbean that season.
What it means for points and miles
- Aeroméxico Rewards: New long-haul 787 routes mean more ways to earn and redeem in the airline’s own program. Award pricing is dynamic, so check aeromexico.com once the flights are bookable for your dates.
- SkyTeam partners: Aeroméxico is a SkyTeam member, and its flights have generally been bookable with partner programs such as Delta SkyMiles and Air France-KLM Flying Blue. Partner award space on new routes often shows up gradually, if at all, so don’t count on it early.
- Transferable points: American Express Membership Rewards lists Aeroméxico Rewards as a transfer partner. A third-party tracker shows a favorable 1:1.6 ratio as of its August 2026 update, but confirm the current ratio on Amex’s site before you move points. Transfers to Aeroméxico can take a few business days, unlike some instant partners.
Practical tips
- Watch the regulatory status. A route “subject to government approval” can be delayed or changed. If you book early, keep an eye on schedule-change emails.
- Mind the late-night timings. The Milan return lands in Mexico City around 4:00 a.m. That’s fine for an early connection but hard if you’re staying in the city.
- Price it both ways. Compare an Aeroméxico Rewards award with a SkyTeam partner award and with cash, especially for business class on the 787.
- U.S.–Mexico flying is in flux. For the separate news on U.S. rules for Mexico City flights, see our post on the U.S. lifting its freeze on new Mexico City flights.

Our take
Aeroméxico is clearly betting on long-haul growth, and Milan plus Guadalajara–Paris are real additions for travelers based in Mexico. For most U.S. readers, though, these routes are a niche option: connecting through Mexico to reach Italy or France adds time compared with U.S. hubs, and award space on brand-new routes is often limited at first. The Caribbean routes matter most to travelers already in Mexico City. We’d treat this as an option to keep in mind for spring 2027, not a reason to transfer points today. Wait until the flights are approved and you can see real award prices.
