With Belize’s winter high season coming up, it’s worth knowing how Tropic Air’s loyalty program works now. On February 18, 2026, the Belize-based airline replaced its old TropicMiles program with Sky Rewards and launched a new mobile app. Other than the Punta Gorda closure covered below, it’s the most significant traveler-facing change Tropic Air has announced in 2026. It also arrived as the airline finished renewing its fleet. Here’s how Sky Rewards works as of October 2026, and whether it’s worth joining before a trip to the cayes.
What changed
- New program name and structure. Sky Rewards replaced TropicMiles. Tropic Air said existing TropicMiles members were moved over automatically.
- Two currencies. Sky Travel Miles are what you earn on eligible flights and spend on free travel and “curated experiences.” Sky Loyalty Points count toward your tier status.
- App and real-time tracking. You can book flights, manage reservations and check your balance and tier progress in the app, on the website or in the member portal.
- Free to join. Enrollment costs nothing.
Sky Rewards tiers (as of October 2026)
These figures come from the Sky Rewards website. It lists an earning rate “per dollar” for each tier but doesn’t say which of the two currencies the rate applies to, or which currency “dollar” refers to. It also doesn’t publish the spending or flight thresholds for each tier.
| Tier | Points per dollar | Birthday bonus | Extra perks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Member | 5 | 100 | Early access to sales, 10% bonus on round trips |
| Preferred | 6 | 500 | Same as Member |
| Premier | 7 | 700 | Priority boarding, priority seating when available, 1 extra free checked bag, membership card |
| Elite | 10 | 1,000 | Premier perks plus 2 extra free checked bags |
The rules that matter
- Earn only on direct bookings. Points are earned on flights booked directly with Tropic Air, domestic and international. Add your account number when you book or before you fly.
- The traveler earns. Credit goes to the member who actually flies, no matter who paid. Accounts are for individuals only, one per person, and miles can’t be pooled.
- Award prices vary. The miles needed depend on destination, dates, demand and fare class. Tropic Air publishes a 2026 redemption values chart on the Sky Rewards site. The program says there are no blackout dates, but seats are capacity-controlled.
- Expiration. Your account and miles stay active as long as you have at least one qualifying flight-earning activity every 12 months. The account expires 12 months after your last qualifying activity.
- No transfer partners. The program site lists no airline, hotel or credit card partners, so you can’t move bank points into Sky Rewards.
The fleet behind it
Tropic Air flies an all-Cessna Caravan fleet. On January 12, 2026, it took delivery of a factory-new Grand Caravan EX (registration V3-HJE), the last of five aircraft in its 2025–2026 fleet expansion. That brought the fleet to 15 aircraft, which the airline calls the youngest in Belize and the region. Aviation trade outlet AIN reported three of those new Grand Caravan EX deliveries in October 2025.
One network change to know about: Tropic Air is closing its Punta Gorda station effective November 1, 2026. We cover that in detail in our Punta Gorda post.
Practical tips
- Join before your first flight. It’s free, and the earning only counts if your number is on the booking.
- Book direct. If a lodge or tour operator is booking your hops to San Pedro or Caye Caulker, ask whether you can book them yourself on tropicair.com so you earn.
- Round trips earn a bonus. All tiers get 10% bonus points on round-trip tickets, so book both directions together when it makes sense.
- Use the miles within a year. If you only visit Belize once, plan to redeem on the same trip or the next one within 12 months.
Our take
Sky Rewards is a simple, free program that makes the most sense for Belize residents and repeat visitors. Elite perks like extra checked bags matter on small planes, where bag rules can be tight. For a typical one-time U.S. visitor, the value is modest: there are no transfer partners or credit card, the 12-month activity rule is strict, and the published details leave gaps such as tier thresholds and what currency the earning rates use. Join anyway, since it costs nothing, but don’t plan your trip around it. Your bigger points wins for Belize are usually the international flight and the hotel.
