Finnair Plus is selling Avios at up to 50% off through Nov. 16, and since Avios move between Finnair, British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus and Qatar, this is one of the cheapest ways we’ve seen to buy them.

The details (as of Nov. 4, 2026)

  • Sale window: Nov. 2 at 00:00:01 to Nov. 16 at 23:59:59 Finnish time (UTC+2). That’s 4:59 p.m. Eastern on Nov. 16.
  • Discounts by purchase size: 5,000 to 19,000 Avios get 30% off, 20,000 to 49,000 get 35% off, 50,000 to 84,000 get 40% off, and 85,000 to 200,000 get the full 50% off. Under 5,000 gets nothing.
  • What it costs: Finnair only shows prices once you log in. One Mile at a Time and AwardWallet both put the top tier at roughly 1.06 to 1.09 cents per Avios, depending on the currency you pay in. LoyaltyLobby flagged a pricing change on Nov. 4, so trust what your own checkout screen says.
  • Limit: up to 200,000 Avios. Finnair reset the yearly buy limit for this sale, so earlier 2026 purchases don’t count against you.
  • Who can buy: you must have joined Finnair Plus before Oct. 30, 2026, and have at least 50 Avios in the account.
  • Bonus: a flat 10% in tier points, which don’t count toward the flight-earned tier points needed for Platinum Lumo.
  • Crediting: one to three days.

Prices and terms can change quickly, so check before you pay.

How to book

  1. Log in to your Finnair Plus account and confirm you have at least 50 Avios. If not, move a few in from British Airways Club.
  2. Open the Buy Avios page on Finnair’s site, which sends you to Finnair Shop.
  3. Check the currency selector at the top and compare what each option charges you.
  4. Pick your amount. If you’re anywhere near 85,000, it’s usually worth going to that tier for the 50% rate.
  5. Pay, then wait up to three days for the Avios to post before moving them to another program.

Who it’s good for

This makes sense if you’ve already spotted a specific award you’d book with Avios and you’re short. Think a Qatar Qsuites seat or short flights where Avios tend to price well.

Our take

This is a good sale if you have a real trip in mind, and a bad idea if you’d just be buying points to sit on.

Here’s the math. At about 1.1 cents each, 100,000 Avios runs roughly $1,100. That’s fair for a premium cabin award that would cost thousands in cash, and lousy for economy seats you could buy for a few hundred. Avios awards also come with taxes and carrier surcharges, sometimes big ones on British Airways flights out of London. So add those to your math before you call it a win.

We’d skip it if you already have bank points that transfer to Avios. Spend those first. We’d also pass if you only need a few thousand. The discount only gets really good once you buy 85,000 or more. And points programs tend to devalue over time, so speculative buying is a bet against the house.
