If you’ve ever pooled World of Hyatt points with a partner or friend, you know the old process was clunky: download a PDF form, get both members to sign it, email it to Hyatt, and wait a few days. As of October 15, 2026, that’s over. Hyatt now lets members send points to another World of Hyatt member directly on Hyatt.com, with no form required.

This is a welcome quality-of-life fix, and it brings Hyatt closer to how Marriott and Hilton already handle point sharing. But the new system also introduces limits that didn’t exist before, so it’s worth knowing the rules before you move points around.

Key details

Based on the terms reported by several established points-and-miles outlets after the tool went live, here’s how it works:

  • Launch date: October 15, 2026.
  • Ratio: 1:1. One point sent equals one point received.
  • Minimum and increments: 1,000 points minimum, then 500-point increments.
  • Annual caps: Up to 525,000 points sent and up to 525,000 points received per account, per calendar year.
  • Number of transfers: Up to six transfers per calendar year. At least one outlet also reports a limit of one transfer per calendar month.
  • Account age: Both the sender’s and the recipient’s accounts must have been open for at least 60 days.
  • What you need: The recipient’s first name, last name, email address, and World of Hyatt number.
  • Processing: Usually instant or within 24 hours, but Hyatt may hold some transfers for review for up to 10 business days.
  • Cost: Transfers are reported to be free.

You can find the tool from your account overview on Hyatt.com or through Hyatt’s points sharing page. Hyatt’s public program pages had not been fully updated with these rules when we checked, so treat the numbers above as reported terms and confirm them on screen before you hit send.

Who this affects and what to do

This matters most to couples and families who pool points into one account to book an award night, and to anyone who earns Hyatt points through a credit card and wants to top up a travel partner’s balance. A few practical tips:

  • Consolidate in bigger chunks. With only a handful of transfers allowed each year, don’t send 1,000 points here and there. Plan transfers around a specific award booking.
  • Open accounts early. If a family member doesn’t have a World of Hyatt account yet, open one now. The 60-day rule means a brand-new account can’t send or receive points right away.
  • Build in time. Most transfers are fast, but a review hold of up to 10 business days is possible. Don’t wait until the night before an award opens up.
  • Remember the alternative. Hyatt has long allowed members to book award stays for other people from their own account. If you just want to put a friend in a room, that may still be simpler than moving points.

Our take

For the vast majority of members, this is a clear improvement. Sending points takes a minute instead of days of back-and-forth, and there’s no fee. For a household that moves points a few times a year, the new limits will never come into play.

The downside is that the old form had very few limits beyond one transfer every 30 days, while the new system adds a hard annual cap on points and on the number of transfers. A 525,000-point cap is generous, but six transfers a year is tighter than the roughly 12 the old 30-day rule allowed. Heavy users who pool points across several relatives may feel that.

It’s also a reminder that program rules can tighten quietly when a process gets modernized. Before relying on any figure here for a big transfer, check the live terms on Hyatt.com, since details may still be clarified in the coming weeks.
