If you collect Avios for Iberia flights, October has two transfer bonuses worth knowing about, even though neither goes directly to Iberia. Capital One is offering a 20% bonus on transfers to British Airways, and Qatar Airways is giving a tiered bonus of up to 35% on points converted from partners including Citi ThankYou. Because Avios can usually be moved between British Airways, Qatar Airways and Iberia accounts, bonus Avios earned in one program can end up paying for an Iberia award.

The two offers

Citi ThankYou points to Qatar Airways Privilege Club15%, 25% or 35%, depending on the size of a single transferOctober 31, 2026, 11:59 p.m. Qatar time (4:59 p.m. ET)

Capital One to British Airways. The bonus launched October 1. AwardWallet, Upgraded Points and other outlets list an end date of October 31, but Frequent Miler reported October 21. With that gap, check the offer in your Capital One account before counting on the later date.

Citi to Qatar Airways. This is part of Qatar’s “Global Points Exchange” campaign, which runs October 1 to 31, 2026 (Qatar time). According to Qatar’s terms, the bonus depends on how many Avios a single transaction produces:

  • Up to 49,999 Avios: 15% bonus
  • 50,000 to 99,999 Avios: 25% bonus
  • 100,000 Avios or more: 35% bonus

Qatar’s terms say separate transfers aren’t added together, so splitting a transfer into smaller pieces can drop you into a lower tier. Bonus Avios are added separately by Qatar, by November 30, 2026, so you won’t see them at the time of the transfer. Citi is eligible in the U.S., and the partner list also includes programs such as Rove, World of Hyatt, IHG and ALL Accor, each with its own eligible regions. AwardWallet notes that Citi’s no-annual-fee cards transfer at a lower ratio than its premium cards.

Getting the Avios into Iberia

British Airways says Avios can be moved between its program and Iberia once the two accounts are linked, and that transfers arrive immediately. Qatar Privilege Club accounts link to a British Airways account. Some general rules to keep in mind:

  • The accounts need to be in the same name.
  • There may be a minimum account age. Upgraded Points says accounts must be open at least 30 days before you can move Avios, so open any missing account now if you plan to use these offers.
  • Moving Avios from Qatar to Iberia may require a stop in your British Airways account first.
  • Bank point transfers can’t be reversed.

As for what to book, Frequent Miler points to Iberia business class to Madrid from 40,500 Avios one-way at off-peak times from New York, Boston, Chicago or Washington, D.C., plus taxes and fees. Iberia’s pricing has changed over the past year and peak dates cost more, so confirm the price for your dates on iberia.com before you transfer.

Who should use these offers

These bonuses make the most sense if you have a large Capital One or Citi balance, plan to redeem Avios soon, and have already found award seats. If you hold Chase or Amex points, you can transfer directly to Iberia at 1:1. Neither program has an Iberia bonus right now, and Amex’s 30% Avios bonus ended September 27.

Prefer a direct route to Iberia? Chase Ultimate Rewards points transfer to both Iberia and British Airways, and if a Chase Sapphire card fits your wallet, you can apply through our Chase referral link.

Our take

A 20% or 35% bonus is a real discount on Avios, and Iberia’s off-peak business class prices to Madrid are among the better uses of them for East Coast and Chicago travelers. But there are catches. You’re adding steps: bank to BA or Qatar, then on to Iberia, and each step comes with rules that can slow you down. Qatar’s bonus doesn’t post right away, and you need a single large transfer to get the 35% rate. Iberia award space can also be hard to find on popular dates.

Our advice: don’t move points just to grab a bonus. Find the seats first, check that your accounts are linked and old enough to transfer, then decide whether the bonus is worth the extra steps. Figures are as of October 2026.
