Hilton Honors elite members can now use points to cover part of their hotel bill directly in the Hilton Honors app, without stopping at the front desk. Hilton announced the feature, called Pay with Points, on October 21, 2026. It works during the app’s Digital Check Out: you review your folio, pick a redemption option and apply points to eligible charges.
Hilton says it is the first major hotel brand to offer a fully digital way to pay with points. The launch is small for now, and Hilton has not said what a point is worth when you use it this way. That missing number matters more than anything else in the announcement.
Key details (as of October 2026)
- Who can use it: Hilton Honors Silver, Gold, Diamond and Diamond Reserve members. Base-level Members are not eligible.
- Where: 150 participating hotels in the U.S. at launch. Hilton has not published a full list. The Points Guy reports that members at participating hotels are told in their pre-arrival email.
- Rollout: Hilton expects more than 800 hotels by the end of 2026 and more than 6,000 participating properties in the U.S. and Canada in early 2027. Timelines like this often slip.
- How it works: Open the Hilton Honors app at checkout, review your folio in Digital Check Out, choose an available redemption option and apply points to eligible charges.
- What you can pay for: Hilton says only “eligible hotel charges,” and redemption options may vary by property. The Points Guy’s report gives food, drinks and spa services as examples.
- Redemption rate: Not disclosed. Neither Hilton’s release nor its spokesperson gave a points-to-dollar rate.
Hilton cites its own research: 70% of surveyed Honors members said they were interested in using points on property, and about half said it could make them more likely to stay or book with Hilton.
Who this affects and what to do
Elite members with a stay coming up: Watch your pre-arrival email and the app at checkout. If your hotel is in the first group, you should see the option in Digital Check Out. Before you apply points, check how many points the app deducts per dollar of charges. If the rate is poor, pay the bill with a card and keep your points for free nights.
Hilton credit cardholders: Many Hilton cobrand cards come with automatic elite status, often Silver or Gold depending on the card, so many cardholders should qualify once their hotel joins. Card terms change, so check your own card’s current benefits.
Base-level members: You can’t use this yet. Earning Silver through stays or a card would make you eligible, but this feature alone isn’t a reason to chase status.
Anyone with a small leftover balance: This could become a handy way to use an orphaned balance that is too small for an award night, such as paying for a dinner or a resort spa visit. Whether that’s a good deal depends on the rate Hilton applies.
Our take
Letting members cover on-property charges with points, without arguing at the front desk, is a real convenience, and doing it in the app is a smart touch. Using points for incidentals has been awkward at many hotel chains, so Hilton deserves credit for making it simple.
Convenience isn’t the same as value, though. Hilton points are usually worth a fraction of a cent each when you redeem them for free nights. Programs that let you put points toward bills or merchandise often pay out at a lower rate than award nights, and Hilton hasn’t said where this new option falls. Until a clear rate is published, treat Pay with Points as a convenience feature and do a quick check each time: divide the dollar amount covered by the points charged. If that rate comes in below what you normally get on award stays, you’re giving up value.
The rollout is also narrow. 150 U.S. hotels is a small slice of Hilton’s portfolio, and most members won’t see the option until 2027. Leaving base-level Members out also means many casual guests won’t get it. We’ll update readers once Hilton or reliable member reports confirm the redemption rate and which charges qualify.
