Milwaukee calls itself the City of Festivals, and that doesn’t stop in winter. Visit Milwaukee’s festival calendar lists a string of small events from December through February, from tree lightings to motorcycle shows. The catch: as of October 2026, most of the January and February organizers haven’t announced their 2027 dates yet. Below is what’s confirmed on each organizer’s own website, what’s still TBA, and how to plan a winter trip on points.
Confirmed dates at a glance
All details are as of October 2026 and come from the organizers’ own pages.
| Event | Dates and hours | Where | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shorewood Winterfest | Sat., Dec. 5, 2026, 3:30–6:30 p.m. | Wood Square and nearby businesses, Shorewood | Free |
| Cedarburg Winter Festival | Feb. 20–21, 2027 (hours not yet posted) | Cedarburg | 2027 details not yet posted |
| Mama Tried Motorcycle Show | Feb. 20–21, 2027 | Milwaukee; 2027 venue not yet stated | Tickets not yet on sale |
| Jazz Heritage Festival (Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra) | Wed., March 3 (6–8 p.m.), Thu., March 4 and Sat., March 6, 2027 | Milwaukee Youth Arts Center, 325 W. Walnut St. | Free |
What to know about each event
- Shorewood Winterfest (Dec. 5). The Shorewood Business Improvement District bills it as “a free winter event for the whole family.” Santa makes stops around the village: Blackbear Children’s Boutique at 3:30 p.m., Scout Wine Merchants and Stone House Collective at 4:15, Draft & Vessel at 5:00, the tree and menorah lighting at Wood Square at 5:45 (with cookie decorating), and Camp Bar Shorewood at 6:15. One note: the same page also says the lighting and ribbon cutting happen “at 6pm,” so arrive a little early.
- Cedarburg Winter Festival (Feb. 20–21). Festivals of Cedarburg lists “Winter Fest Feb 20-21, 2027” on its homepage, but its winter festival page still shows the 2026 schedule. Check back for 2027 events and any activity fees.
- Mama Tried Motorcycle Show (Feb. 20–21). The show’s website announces “Feb 20-21, 2027” in its show-info banner. As of late October, its ticket page showed no products, and the site didn’t name the 2027 venue or hours. It falls on the same weekend as Cedarburg’s festival, which makes for an easy two-event trip.
- Jazz Heritage Festival (March 3–6). It’s a little outside winter’s core, but it’s on the calendar with dates. MYSO describes day one as “jazz combo performances by Jazz Studies program combos and clinics led by professional jazz musicians,” with free admission. In 2026 it ran in late February, so don’t rely on last year’s timing.
Still waiting on 2027 dates
These events appeared on Visit Milwaukee’s calendar for early 2026, but as of October 2026 their organizers hadn’t posted 2027 dates. We’ll add them once they do: Cool Fool Kite & Snow Carving Festival (traditionally New Year’s Day at Veterans Park), N/A Day, MobCraft N/A Fest, Winterfest at Boerner Botanical Gardens, Ice Bear Fest, Mitten Fest and Frostfest at the Milwaukee Public Market. Food & Froth is a question mark: the Milwaukee Public Museum called its 2026 edition “the 26th and final Food & Froth” at its current building, and that building closes in early January 2027 ahead of the new museum’s opening.
For December’s bigger events, see our Nov. 7–Dec. 6 festival roundup and the Milwaukee Holiday Lights Festival guide.
Getting there
From Chicago: Amtrak’s Hiawatha runs between Chicago Union Station and downtown Milwaukee in about 1.5 hours. Check the current timetable for frequency. Shorewood and Cedarburg are outside downtown, so plan on a car or rideshare for those.
By air: Milwaukee Mitchell (MKE) has nonstops on Alaska, American, Delta, Frontier, JetBlue, Southwest, Sun Country and United, according to the airport’s route list.
Where to stay on points
- Hyatt Regency Milwaukee (World of Hyatt), 333 W. Kilbourn Ave., downtown. Hyatt changed its award chart in May 2026, so check the current points price on hyatt.com.
- Kimpton Journeyman (IHG One Rewards), 310 E. Chicago St., in the Third Ward.
- Hilton Milwaukee (Hilton Honors), 509 W. Wisconsin Ave., downtown.
Hilton and IHG price award nights dynamically, so compare points with the cash rate for your dates. Our Milwaukee on points guide has more hotel detail.
Chase Ultimate Rewards points transfer to World of Hyatt and IHG One Rewards, which covers two of the hotels above. You can compare current Sapphire offers and apply with our Chase referral link.

Our take
None of these is a fly-in event on its own, but two weekends stand out. Dec. 5 pairs free Shorewood Winterfest with Krampusnacht the next day and the Holiday Lights Festival downtown. Feb. 20–21 is the best bet for a late-winter trip, with the Mama Tried show and Cedarburg’s festival on the same weekend. Because so many January organizers haven’t posted dates yet, we’d hold off on booking anything non-refundable around them until they do.
