Milwaukee has a good mix of chain hotels you can book with transferable points and historic independents you can’t. A few of the best-known names don’t belong to the program people assume they do, so we checked each hotel’s current affiliation before writing this. Here’s where your points work downtown, as of October 2026.

The best redemptions, hotel by hotel

Hyatt Regency Milwaukee: usually the best value

This is a 21-story, 484-room hotel at 333 W. Kilbourn Ave. The top-floor Polaris restaurant reopened in 2015, but it no longer rotates. A November 2025 review listed the hotel as Category 2, which cost 6,500 to 9,500 points a night under the old chart. Hyatt moved to a five-level chart for stays booked from May 20, 2026. NerdWallet reports that Category 2 now tops out at 15,000 points on the most expensive nights, though most nights should price well below that. We couldn’t confirm the hotel’s current category on Hyatt’s own site, so look up your dates on hyatt.com. Because Hyatt still publishes a chart, this is often where points stretch furthest in Milwaukee. Just remember that Chase points transfer at only 4:3 from the Sapphire Preferred, versus 1:1 from the Reserve.

The Trade, Autograph Collection: best for Fiserv Forum

The Trade opened in May 2023 at 420 W. Juneau Ave., just north of Fiserv Forum. It’s a nine-story, 205-room Marriott Autograph Collection hotel with an Italian restaurant, Il Cervo, on the top floor. Fiserv Forum calls it the official hotel of the Deer District. Marriott prices awards dynamically, so expect higher prices on Bucks and concert nights. Compare the points price with the cash rate before you book.

Milwaukee Marriott Downtown and The Westin: elite-friendly Marriott options

The Milwaukee Marriott Downtown (625 N. Milwaukee St.) has a 24/7 Concierge Lounge that Platinum, Titanium and Ambassador Elites get into free, per Marriott’s hotel page. Valet is listed at $56 a day. The Westin Milwaukee (550 N. Van Buren St.) is closer to the lake, allows one dog up to 75 pounds for $75 per stay, and lists valet at $60 a day. Both price awards dynamically.

Kimpton Journeyman: the Third Ward pick

Milwaukee’s first Kimpton opened in 2016 at 310 E. Chicago St. It has 158 rooms and The Outsider, a rooftop bar on the ninth floor. Kimpton is an IHG brand, so you can book it with IHG One Rewards points. IHG prices awards dynamically, and it’s a 1:1 Chase partner. This is the best choice if you’d rather spend the weekend walking the Third Ward’s restaurants and the lakefront than going to the arena.

Hilton Milwaukee: the Hilton Honors option

Its operator, Marcus Hotels, finished a major renovation in early 2026 and dropped “City Center” from the name. Some listings, including Marcus’s own portfolio page, still use the old name. The hotel is at 509 W. Wisconsin Ave., a few blocks from Fiserv Forum. One wrinkle: the building’s former 2000 addition reopened in January 2026 as The Marc Hotel. That’s a separate Marcus-owned hotel with its own entrance and check-in desk, and we couldn’t confirm that it participates in Hilton Honors. If you’re booking on points, make sure the reservation says Hilton Milwaukee.

The Pfister and Saint Kate: great hotels, but not on chain points

The Pfister (424 E. Wisconsin Ave.) has operated since 1893. It’s a member of Preferred Hotels & Resorts and Historic Hotels of America, and the Marcus company owns it. It isn’t a Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt or IHG hotel, so you can’t book it with Chase or Amex transfers. Saint Kate – The Arts Hotel (139 E. Kilbourn Ave.) is also a Marcus property. It runs on Marcus Loyalty Rewards, and its FAQ lists overnight self-parking at $33 a night. Either can be worth paying cash for. You could also use a card’s travel portal or travel-credit features, depending on your card’s current terms.

What’s worth a trip

  • Milwaukee Art Museum. It’s open now with The Shakers: A World in the Making (through Jan. 31, 2027) and Beneath the Surface: Mining and American Photography (Oct. 23, 2026 to Jan. 18, 2027). Built to Inspire, a show marking 25 years of the Quadracci Pavilion, runs through 2027. Adult admission is $27.
  • Holiday season downtown. The Milwaukee Holiday Lights Festival runs Nov. 19, 2026 to Jan. 1, 2027. The free Deer District Holiday Market at Fiserv Forum runs Nov. 20 to Dec. 6. See our Milwaukee events guide for the full winter calendar.
  • Summerfest 2027. It runs at Henry Maier Festival Park over three weekends: June 24–26, July 1–3 and July 8–10. Lakefront hotels fill early, so this is a case where booking award nights months ahead pays off.
  • Fiserv Forum. The Bucks season runs through Apr. 8, 2027, and the arena has a full winter concert calendar, so it’s worth checking before you pick dates.

Practical tips

  • Compare points to cash every time. Milwaukee cash rates are often moderate, so a dynamic-priced award can be a poor use of points on a quiet weeknight.
  • Downtown parking is expensive, at $33 to $60 a night at the hotels above. Coming by the Amtrak Hiawatha from Chicago avoids it.
  • Event nights, like Summerfest weekends, big concerts and Bucks playoff games, push dynamic award prices up. If your dates are flexible, check the Fiserv Forum calendar first.

Our take

If you have Hyatt points, or Chase points with a Sapphire Reserve, the Hyatt Regency is likely the best value downtown, provided its current price on hyatt.com still looks like the low category it has been. The Trade is the one to book for an arena night, and the Kimpton Journeyman is the one we’d pick for a food-and-neighborhood weekend. The honest downside is that Milwaukee’s two most distinctive hotels, The Pfister and Saint Kate, aren’t bookable with major transferable points. Milwaukee’s cash rates can also be low enough that paying cash and saving your points for a pricier city is the smarter move.
