A JW Marriott is coming to San Salvador, and the project just hit a visible milestone. In early October 2026, developer Real Hotels & Resorts showed off the first model rooms for the JW Marriott San Salvador, which is under construction in the area around the Multiplaza shopping center in Antiguo Cuscatlán, on the west side of the capital. Salvadoran outlets including El Diario de Hoy (elsalvador.com), News in America and El Periodista report an opening target in 2028; one report puts it in the third quarter and another in the second half of the year.

For Marriott Bonvoy members, that’s a long way off, but it’s worth knowing about if El Salvador is on your list for the next few years.

The hotel is part of a larger project that also includes offices, a mall expansion, residential towers, a theater and a chapel. Fernando Poma, president of Real Hotels & Resorts, told El Diario de Hoy the goal is to build the most luxurious hotel in El Salvador. Reports differ on some event-space figures, so we’ve left those out.

What it could mean on points

JW Marriott is one of Marriott’s luxury brands, and a 15th-floor Executive Lounge is notable: Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite and higher members generally get lounge access at hotels that have one, though some hotels and brands have exceptions. Marriott hasn’t listed the hotel or published award pricing yet, and Bonvoy uses dynamic pricing, so there’s no way to know the points cost today. Don’t plan around a number until the hotel shows up on Marriott’s site.

It’s also not the only Marriott project in the country. In June 2025, Marriott announced an agreement for four City Express by Marriott hotels in El Salvador, including properties in San Salvador’s historic center and one connecting the metro area and the international airport, with openings planned between 2025 and 2027. Opening dates for hotels like these often slip, so check Marriott’s site for what is actually bookable.

Our take

The upside: San Salvador has had few true luxury options for points travelers. Our favorites on points today are the Sheraton Presidente San Salvador (Marriott Bonvoy) and the Hyatt Centric San Salvador (World of Hyatt). Outside the capital, we book with Booking.com or with Chase points (we earn ours with the Chase Sapphire Reserve) at Almare Zonte and Wave House in El Zonte, and at Casa 1800’s Cerro Verde and Los Naranjos boutique hotels. If you’re in El Zonte, be sure to grab a bite at Nan Tal. A JW Marriott with a club lounge, a spa and three restaurants in the Multiplaza area, one of the city’s main shopping and dining districts, would give Bonvoy members a real top-end choice, and it’s a sign of how much hotel investment is heading to El Salvador.

The downsides: it’s roughly two years out at best, construction timelines can slip, and nothing is known about points pricing. Multiplaza is also a drive from the beaches and from the airport, so it suits city stays and business trips more than a surf trip. We’ll revisit when Marriott lists the hotel.
