Bastille Days, Milwaukee’s free French-themed street festival in Cathedral Square Park, has moved back a week for 2027. The East Town Association, which runs the festival, now lists Bastille Days 2027 starting Thursday, July 15, with the Storm the Bastille run that night at 9 p.m. Here’s what’s confirmed so far, one date wrinkle to know about, and how to plan the weekend on points.

About the end date: The East Town Association’s homepage lists “Thrs July 15 – Sunday, July 19.” July 15, 2027 is a Thursday, but the Sunday after it is July 18; July 19 is a Monday. Bastille Days has been a four-day, Thursday-to-Sunday festival (July 9–12 in 2026), and FOX6 reported in July 2026 that the association was moving it “one week later,” which also points to July 15–18. We’d plan around Thursday, July 15 through Sunday, July 18, but keep your hotel booking refundable until the organizer cleans up the listing.
Why the dates moved
In 2026, Bastille Days (July 9–12) overlapped with the third weekend of Summerfest. For 2027, Summerfest moves to June 24–26, July 1–3 and July 8–10. According to FOX6’s July 11, 2026 report, the East Town Association pushed Bastille Days back a week to avoid the clash and “ensure safety.” For visitors, that means the two festivals no longer compete for the same downtown hotel rooms. If you want both, you could do Summerfest’s final weekend (July 8–10) and stay on for Bastille Days, or make two separate trips.
What to expect
The 2027 lineup and vendor list haven’t been announced. Based on the organizer’s 2026 description, the festival includes:
- Storm the Bastille 5K: a timed nighttime run/walk through East Town and the Historic Third Ward that kicks off the festival. The 2026 race was the 40th. Registration for 2027 wasn’t open as of October 2026.
- Live music and roaming buskers, with an entertainment schedule posted closer to the festival.
- Dozens of food and drink vendors, including French and Cajun food.
- An international marketplace with dozens of vendors.
The organizer says the festival draws more than 250,000 visitors a year, so evenings and the Thursday-night race get crowded.
Getting there
- From Chicago by train: Amtrak’s Hiawatha runs between Chicago Union Station and Milwaukee’s downtown Intermodal Station in about an hour and a half, with stops at Glenview, Sturtevant and Milwaukee Airport. For a free festival, this is often the cheapest way to go from Chicago, and you skip downtown parking.
- By air: Milwaukee Mitchell (MKE) has nonstops on Alaska, American, Delta, Frontier, JetBlue, Southwest, Sun Country and United. You can also take the Hiawatha downtown from the airport station.
- Once you’re downtown: The Hop streetcar is free to ride, and the East Town Association says its M-Line stops in the middle of the festival grounds. In 2026, streetcar service ran until 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. Check The Hop’s route map for the stop nearest your hotel.
- Parking: The organizer’s page doesn’t list festival parking. Downtown hotel parking isn’t cheap: the Milwaukee Marriott Downtown lists valet at $56 a night as of October 2026.
Where to stay on points
Cathedral Square sits in East Town, so the downtown chain hotels are a short walk or streetcar ride away. Award prices are dynamic, so check your exact nights before transferring points.
- Milwaukee Marriott Downtown (Marriott Bonvoy), 625 N. Milwaukee St. It’s the closest of the three and a few blocks from the park.
- Hyatt Regency Milwaukee (World of Hyatt), 333 W. Kilbourn Ave. It’s on the west side of downtown, about a 15-minute walk away. Confirm the current points price on hyatt.com.
- Kimpton Journeyman (IHG One Rewards), 310 E. Chicago St. in the Historic Third Ward. It’s a good pick if you want restaurants nearby, and it’s close to the 5K route.

Our take
Bastille Days is one of the easiest Milwaukee festivals to do on a budget: admission is free, the streetcar is free, and the park is walkable from downtown hotels. The 2027 date change is good news for visitors, because the festival no longer shares a weekend with Summerfest, which should make downtown rooms easier to find. The catch is that very little beyond the start date is final. The end date on the organizer’s site has a typo, and hours, the music lineup and race registration aren’t out yet. Book a refundable rate (or an award you can cancel) now, and check back in spring for the full schedule.
